Discover Saint Lizier The town of Saint-Lizier is one of the most beautiful places in France. It has a rich history with a great religious heritage. The Saint-Lizier Cathedral has an octagonal bell tower and was built from the 11th to the 15th century.
‘Around the corner’ from the park lies Montbrun-Le Bocage. From afar, Montbrun can be recognized by the castle ruins that rise above the horizon. Not much of interest is known about that castle.
Very special: Cave of Le Mas d’Azil
In the heart of the Le Plantaurel massif, the cave of Le Mas d’Azil was hollowed out by the river Arize.
It is the only cave in Europe that you can drive through by car. This cave is an impressive natural tunnel with a road running through it.
Carla Bayle, well worth a visit. In just fifteen minutes you can drive from Château Cazalères to the picturesque artists' village of Carla Bayle.
It is a fortified village situated on top of a hill.
The town of Mirepoix is a true French bastide.
After a flood in the 13th century, it was rebuilt.
On the central square, with its arcades and half-timbered houses, you’ll find cozy terraces and many charming shops.
The market takes place on Monday morning. It’s highly recommended.
Lourdes, who doesn't know it.
After Rome, Lourdes is the largest Catholic pilgrimage site.
The city became famous for the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858.
Labouiche Underground River
In the municipality of Vernajoul, 33 km from the park, lies the starting point of the longest navigable underground river in Europe. It was only discovered in 1908. The boat is propelled manually by the guide.
Surprising Toulouse.
Toulouse truly lives up to its name as the pink city.
The pink hue of the bricks in its buildings and homes gives it an unmistakable charm.
Golf d’Ariège: challenging to the max! Golf d'Ariège is an 18-hole golf course with an additional 9-hole short course, where each hole has 4 tees.
Vals: worth a detour.
On your way to Mirepoix or Carcassonne, you will see signs to the small village of Vals with its remarkable rock church (Eglise rupestre). The rock church of Sainte-Marie, which dominates the village of Vals and was carved out of a rock,
The visit begins with a short walk of 1.4 km to reach the entrance of the cave from the ticket office.
It is possible to make this journey with the tourist train!
The CHÂTEAU de Foix, in the heart of the medieval center
The Foix castle, perched on its rocky peak, dominates the town.
Ax-les-Thermes, known since ancient times for its thermal waters, delights all board sports enthusiasts who descend the slopes of Ax-3-Domaines in winter.
