Mirepoix
Saint- Lizier

 Ontdek het stadje Saint-Lizier

The town of Mirepoix is a true French bastide. After a flood in the 13th century, it was rebuilt.
On the central square, with its arcades and half-timbered houses, you’ll find cozy terraces and many charming shops.
The market takes place on Monday mornings. It’s highly recommended.

Also admire the beautiful, old façade of the Consul’s House. The fine medieval woodcarving is remarkable.
Next to the square is the impressive Saint-Maurice Cathedral.

There are plenty of historical festivals.
Visit the folkloric parades on the third weekend of July or the puppet festival at the beginning of August.

The apple festival is held on the third weekend of October.
These are events you shouldn’t miss!

Our tip

The nature in the Ariège is overwhelmingly beautiful. The rolling hills almost make you feel like you are in Tuscany, while in the background you can see the high peaks of the Pyrenees. There are fast-flowing mountain streams, remarkable caves, and beautiful reservoirs.
