The town of Saint-Lizier is one of the most beautiful places in France.

It has a rich history with a great religious heritage.

The Saint-Lizier Cathedral has an octagonal bell tower and was built from the 11th to the 15th century.

The church contains beautiful Romanesque frescoes.

You should not miss the stunning Romanesque cloister with its sculpted capitals.

Also worth seeing is the treasure of the Bishops of Couserans, which consists of metalwork including a silver reliquary bust of Saint Lizier.

Not far from the cathedral, the former Hôtel-Dieu is an 18th-century pharmacy with a beautiful collection of faience jars.

Under the arcade opposite the church, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a menu du jour.

 

The nature in the Ariège is overwhelmingly beautiful. The rolling hills almost make you feel like you are in Tuscany, while in the background you can see the high peaks of the Pyrenees. There are fast-flowing mountain streams, remarkable caves, and beautiful reservoirs.
